I enjoyed reading Chapter 9 about the reference interview. To sum it up I wrote a Classified ad:
Wanted - A well-read person with friendly, approachable personality (positive, respectful, encouraging), an attentive listener, knows as much about the students as possible, knows library collection thoroughly, is knowledgable about current, past and future events, knows hundreds of age- appropriate websites , promotes careful and concise work at every stage of inquiry in research, keeps communication open and flowing, and.."maintains curent and in-depth knowledge about the complete range of educational and informational materials, has a knowledge of the resources -- general, reference, and community. Someone who will patiently instruct students how to 1)access information efficiently and effectively 2)evaluaate information critically and completely adn 3) use information accurately and completely. In spare time will read as many books as possible so as to be a reader's advisor. After hours, must shelve books, tidy up the library, attend faculty meetings, be an active participant in community affairs in order to market the library and its services.
Get the idea? We need to be wizards. I am glad I can take this class while I'm not a librarian. I have a little extra time to investigate web sites and read books.
Is there anyone who is challenged with our assignments on Skype or Flickr. If at anytime y'all would like to meet as a group and play around with this..let me know. Two or three heads are better.
